Cazoo Open de France - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at Le Golf National.

Ewen Ferguson and Jordan Smith were tied at the top, Kazuki Higa made a big move, sand and rough were no problem and monster putts were the order of the day during round three of the Cazoo Open de France.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving day at Continental Europe's oldest open.

Ferguson and Smith tied at the top

Ewen Ferguson and Jordan Smith will share the lead heading into the final round after going toe-to-toe on day three. Smith entered the day with a three-shot advantage and while he stretched that to four in the early stages, his momentum stalled and a bogey on the last saw him sign for a 70 and sit at 13 under. That left him alongside playing partner Ferguson, who made five birdies and a single dropped shot in a 67, and the duo will battle it out again on Sunday. Japan's Kazuki Higa was one shot back after a 65, one clear of German Yannik Paul who signed for a 67.

Higa full of confidence

Higa enjoyed a fine start to his rookie season on the DP World Tour, finishing fourth at the Hero Indian Open shortly before he made his debut at the Masters Tournament. It may not have been all plain-sailing since then but his sensational bogey-free effort on Saturday put him in a good position for a maiden win and he certainly isn't lacking belief. "I’m very confident," he said. "I was confident the whole day. I hoped a few more putts would drop but it was still a good round of 65 today. I’m very pleased to be able to play like that. I saw the Ryder Cup in 2018 and from that moment I wanted to play here so I’m very happy to play here. To play under par was the objective of the week so I’ll try to be under par again tomorrow. My caddie is from France so I want to bring the title for him at his national open.”

Sand? What sand?

From sand, over sand, awkward distance - no issue for Ferguson.

Long grass? What long grass?

Home hero Julien Brun was making light work of the rough.
