Produced one of the most emotional moments of the season in 2013 when, two weeks after the death of his mother, he holed a 40-foot par putt on the last hole of the Portugal Masters to take second place and secure his card for 2014. Broke down in tears on the final green and said he had felt his mother’s presence as he stood over the putt. Could not produce a similar finish in 2014, however, and lost his full playing rights, but won his card back at the 2015 European Tour Qualifying School, grabbing the ninth card thanks to two 67s in the last two rounds. Came through the European Challenge Tour in 2012, finishing fifth at the Grand Final to rise from 23rd to 15th in the Rankings. Until then had spent his career playing in his native South Africa and America.
