Became only the second Dutchman after Rolf Muntz to win the Amateur Championship when, at Turnberry in 2008, he defeated England’s Tommy Fleetwood – who would top the Challenge Tour Rankings three years later. It was the highlight of an impressive amateur career which included no fewer than five wins at the National Match Play Championship – the first as a 15 year old – and the Spanish Amateur Championship in Seville in 2009. Father is former Challenge Tour professional and current Dutch Federation coach Jonas Saxton, so golf was in the blood. Is sponsored by ‘Made in Scotland’, the corporate golf company which is based in The Netherlands and was formed by his father and three fellow former professionals over the course of a conversation they had beside an open log fire at Loch Lomond Golf Club in 1996. Enjoyed his best season to date in 2011, topping the Satellite EPD Tour Order of Merit before earning a European Tour card at the Qualifying School Final Stage, where he finished in 29th place. Is coached by Hayo Bensdorp of the Dutch Federation. Enjoys playing and watching tennis, and cites Roger Federer as his sporting hero.
