Needed to eagle the last, but his birdie putt from 25 feet missed by millimetres and he had to settle for a 12 under par round of 60. Was level with David Howell after 72 holes, but lost out to the Englishman on the second hole of a play-off. Started the 2013 season with only a Challenge Tour category, but victory in the Madeira Islands Open improved his exemption to full European Tour Membership, and he finished the season a heady 14th in The Race to Dubai and as the winner of the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Could not maintain that superb form in 2014, but a tied ninth finish at the ISPS Handa Perth International helped him to 65th place in The 2014 Race to Dubai. Attended Oklahoma State University and reached number one in the world amateur rankings, having won the 2010 US Amateur Championship on his 21st birthday.
