Dominique Nouailhac of France carded a six-under-par 67 to take the first round lead in the Slovenian Open in Bled.
The 29-year-old from Plaisir earned a one shot advantage over Bradley Dredge of Wales, Irishman David Higgins, and fellow Frenchman Francois Lamare.
Nouailhac returned five birdies and an eagle-three at the 17th, which took him to the top of the leaderboard.
Dredge, winner of the Is Molas Challenge last month, had six birdies in his 68, including five in seven holes from the sixth.
Higgins, the best placed British or Irish player in last week's Volvo Finnish Open in Helsinki, also had six birdies, while Lamare kept a bogey off his card while running in five birdies.
