Defending champion Kevin Carissimi bowed out of the Ohrlings Swedish Match Play after being beaten by Sweden’s Paul Nilbrink in the second round at Kristianstads GC.
Nilbrink, winner of the Volvo Finnish Open in July, won on the last hole to knock the American out of the competition. However, he could progress no further after losing to local favourite Johan Annerfelt in the third round. Annerfelt is currently in 65th place on the Swedish Order of Merit and has one Telia Tour victory to his name – the Isaberg Rapid Open.
Tony Edlund, the younger brother of European Tour player Dennis, successfully overcame Johan Skold 3 and 1
A surprise winner was Peter Thörn who defeated the former European Tour player Niclas Fasth on the last and then David Lindqvist 5&4. Thorn used to play on the Swedish Tour and Challenge Tour some years ago and won this event in 1995. But since then he has been working full time in the computer business. He has only played five tournaments in the two last years without much success.
Klas Eriksson, joint third last week at Gleneagles, was defeated by Ola Eliasson by 5 and 4. Peter Hedblom, winner of the 1996 Moroccan Open but back on the Challenge Tour after losing his main Tour card is still in the fray after beating Jorgen Aker on the 19th hole. Kalle Brink in another player used to playing on the main Tour sill in with a shout at the title after his third round win over Johan Edfors.
