Sweden’s Ola Eliasson extended his lead to two strokes at the halfway stage of the Philips Challenge Xacobeo’99 Challenge Tour event at Golf Club de La Coruna, Spain.
The 29 year old from Falkenberg, who lives in Marbella, added a one under par 71 to his opening 65 to move into a two shot lead over Frenchman Benoit Teilleria, who followed an opening 66 with a level par 72.
Eliasson, who gathered three birdies but made two bogeys, said: “I played a little less well than in my first round when I had two chip-ins. It wasn’t quite as good tee to green but at least I am still putting well which is a good sign. I am right in contention.”
Teilleria, aiming to earn his card on the European Tour by finishing in the top 15 on the Challenge Tour Rankings, moved into the lead at one point by going to nine under par for the tournament.
But the 26 year old, who started at the 10th, dropped strokes at the 16th, fourth and seventh to slip back into a tie for second with Martin Erlandsson, who had six birdies, one bogey and a double bogey in his round of 70 for 138.
A number of players are still in contention on 140, four under par – Johan Annerfelt of Sweden, Jean Kula of France and Spaniard Joaquin Millan from Malaga, who carded a fine 68 in the second round.
