Ben Mason and Sandeep Grewal put disappointing seasons behind them to finish joint leaders after the first round of the Skandia PGA Open in Sweden. Both fired six under par 66 to share top spot with Sweden's Marcus Norgren a stroke clear of three more Swedes and Scotland's Lorne Kelly.
Mason, 24, a former England international from Yorkshire, has made the cut in only half of his 10 Challenge Tour events this season and his 66 follows a
disappointing closing 76 in the Talma Finnish Challenge two weeks ago. But he found his form at Bokskogen to card seven birdies and just one bogey.
Grewal's season has been even worse. He has made only one cut in 11 Challenge Tour outings but the 19 year old former England boy international from the Wirral was always capable of a low score. He also ran in seven birdies to sign for his lowest Challenge Tour round, which should give him confidence for the latter part of the season.
Kelly, a member of the victorious 1999 Walker Cup team, didn't drop a shot in his 67 and shared fourth place with Swedes Johan Skold, Joachim Backstrom, and Johan Edfors.
Two more Britons, Lee Thompson and Jamie Little are among a large group on 68.
