Scott Drummond shot to the top of the Open de Toulouse leaderboard on the European Challenge Tour after a third round 65 gave an 18 under par total of 198, and a one stroke lead from Welshman Mark Mouland.

Drummond, currently lying tenth on the Rankings with €58,840, played some great golf in what turned out to be tricky winds at the 6732 yard Golf de Toulouse Palmola venue – registering seven birdies and 11 pars during his third round.

The 29 year old leads Mouland by one, with Frenchman Alexandre Balicki in third place on 16 under. Argentinian Cesar Monasterio is on 15 under, with Scotsman Euan Little and Englishman Richard McEvoy tied in fifth position on 14 under after respective third rounds of 68 and 67.

Drummond said: “I played really solid golf – nothing spectacular, just steady all the way round. I didn’t have any bogeys today either, which is always satisfying.

“I’m in a good position for the last round but you can never tell what the next round will bring. This course is the kind of place where someone could easily shoot 62 on the last day and take the tournament.

“You just have to set yourself up to go out there and hold nothing back in an attempt to shoot a low a score as possible. It’s quite bunched up at the top of the leaderboard so tomorrow should be an interesting day.

With six top ten finishes under his belt this season, Drummond now feels ready to make the step up The European Tour next year – where he knows he will be faced by new challenges.

“I’m tenth at the moment on the Challenge Tour rankings, so I feel that as long as keep adding a little money to it every week then I’ll stay in the top 15. A good finish this weekend would go a long way to securing it and would get me close to the top five.

“I feel ready to go on to The European Tour full time. I’ve played in a few events over the past threee years and I’ve enjoyed the experience. I made some cuts and missed others but I feel the way the courses are set up suits my game and I’ve always felt comfortable in Tour events.

“It’s a question of whether or not you can be comfortable on it week in, week out that tells you if you can stay there or not, but hopefully I can get my chance to do that next season.”
