Axgren Moves to Number One with Victory at the Tusker Kenya Open
Johan Axgren of Sweden secured the second European Challenge Tour victory of his remarkable 2006 season at the Tusker Kenya Open, securing the top prize of €25,600 that sent him soaring to the top of the Challenge Tour Rankings. Axgren began the final round at the Karen Golf Club with a three shot lead and ended the day four shots clear of the English duo of James Hepworth and Gary Lockerbie, who shared second place, while Anders S Hansen of Denmark finished a further shot back.
Axgren Makes Himself Favourite at the Tusker Kenya Open
Sweden’s Johan Axgren made himself favourite to land his second European challenge Tour title of the season at the Tusker Kenya Open by posting a third round of three under par 67 at the Karen Golf Club to establish a three stroke advantage over England’s James Heath going into the final round. Axgren, who began the day in a three way tie for the lead with England’s James Hepworth and South Africa’s James Kamte, played more good shots than bad as he put together seven birdies, eight pars and four bogeys to pull away from the chasing pack with a three round aggregate of ten under par 200.
Three Way Tie at the Top in Kenya
The Tusker Kenya Open moved into the weekend with a three way tie atop the leaderboard as Johan Axgren of Sweden, England’s James Hepworth and the South African James Kamte moved to seven under par 133 at the magnificent Karen Golf Club.While Axgren supplemented his opening 64 with a steady one under 69 in the second round, both Hepworth and Kamte showed some great form en rout to posting a pair of 66s to join Axgren at the head of the field and one stroke clear of England’s James Heath, Cedric Menut of France and Argentina’s Gustavo Rojas.
Axgren and McArthur Lead at the Tusker Kenya Open
Sweden’s Johan Axgren and Scotland’s Andrew McArthur emerged from the first round of the European Challenge Tour’s Tusker Kenya Open as the men to catch at the head of the field with both players carding opening scores of six under par 64 at the magnificent Karen Golf Club on the outskirts of Nairobi to establish a two shot advantage over the chasing pack.
Challenge Tour stars look to follow Vancsik in Kenya
The sixth leg of an already intriguing and expansive 2006 Challenge Tour schedule takes place this week with the staging of the Tusker Kenya Open, and if any of the competitors at the Karen Golf Club in Nairobi are in doubt about the importance of the event in the overall scheme of the season, they should give the 2005 champion Daniel Vancsik a call.
