Denmark’s Anders Schmidt Hansen claimed his maiden title on the European Challenge Tour with a three shot victory in the MAN NÖ Open in Austria.
The 29 year old, whose previous best finish was a second place in the 2005 Galeria Kaufhof Pokal Challenge, closed with a one over par 71 for an 11 under par total of 269 and a three shot winning margin over Zane Scotland of England, who also closed with a 71 for 272.
Understandably, taking a lead into the last day, the Dane was nervous and it showed in the opening to his final round, dropping a shot and the first hole and double bogeying the fourth to give the chasing pack hope.
But Hansen recovered his composure with birdies at the sixth and seventh to get his challenge back on track and while he traded two bogeys and two birdies on the inward half, with none of the challengers able to make a significant push, the title and the €20,800 (£14,097) was his.
The victory moved the Dane up to ninth on the Challenge Tour Rankings with €39,687. Italy’s Eduardo Molinari still leads the way with €63,757. At the end of the season, the top 20 players on the Rankings gain their cards for The 2008 European Tour International Schedule.
