Three consecutive birdies on the front nine gave Steve Lewton the lead midway through the final round of the Côtes d’Armor Open Bretagne.

The Englishman started the day two shots off the lead but birdies at the second, fifth, sixth and seventh holes propelled him to the top of the leaderboard to nine under.

Overnight leader Raymond Russell of Scotland had back to back bogeys at the second and third to slip back to six under, but going the other way was Sam Walker, who was one under par for the day after nine holes.

Frenchman Victor Riu was alongside Walker at eight under after birdieing the first, while England’s Andrew Willey, boosted by a five under par 65 yesterday, was two under after nine and seven under for the tournament.
