Before thunder and lightning halted play on the second day of the Rolex Trophy, Korean Sihwan Kim stormed to the top of the leaderboard with an electric round of 64.

Kim arrived in Geneva on the back of a top five finish in Denmark last week, and promptly picked up where he left off with a round of 66 on the opening day of the elite 42-man tournament.

That was good enough to sit in a tie for 11th place overnight, and on the second morning the Challenge Tour rookie rocketed to the top of the leaderboard on 14 under par courtesy of eight birdies in a flawless exhibition at Golf Club de Genève, in the Swiss capital.

Kim said: “If anything the pins were probably a bit tougher today than on the first day, but I putted so much better. The greens were very pure first thing this morning, so if you hit your putt on the right line, it’s going to drop. I hit the ball well in Denmark last week without making that many putts, so I knew if I could get my putter going here, I’d have a good week. You need to make a lot of birdies on this course if you’re going to win the tournament, so hopefully my putter will stay hot.”

Earlier in the day, European Tour champion John Parry aced the third hole with a seven iron. The Englishman is four under par for the day and eight under for the tournament with three holes of his second round left to play.

Play resumed at 1.45pm local time after a 58 minute delay, with in-form Swede Kristoffer Broberg and Denmark’s Joachim Hansen and both threatening to overtake Kim on 13 under par through 12 and 15 holes respectively.
