The first round of the Hainan Open was suspended at 4.30pm this evening, after heavy wind and rain swept through Sanya.

Heavy showers overnight and this morning delayed the morning groups by six hours, with those due to start Round One not teeing off until 1.05pm in the afternoon at Sanya Luhuitou GC.

China’s Zhou Guo-wu managed to complete nine holes of his first round in the difficult conditions, and he currently shares top spot with England’s Tom Murray, who completed six holes today, on two under par.

The decision was taken to suspend play after a typhoon swept through the tropical setting, meaning those teeing off this morning will restart their first rounds on Friday morning.
