The 2016 Bridgestone Trophy marked the Challenge Tour’s return to England after a four year absence, and a first visit to Heythrop Park Resort in Oxfordshire, as records tumbled in Oxfordshire.
Thomas Detry put in a display for the ages, opening with a 12 under par round of 60 and ultimately winning by 12 shots, the largest margin of victory in Challenge Tour history, on a record low aggregate score of 29 under par.
The tour’s previous event on English soil gave home fans much to cheer as their own Chris Paisley – now a European Tour member – triumphed, while notable English golfers such as Andrew Johnston, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose all spent the early part of their careers on Europe’s top developmental tour.
