The Hainan Open will once again be the first leg of a China double-header at a crucial point of the season. This year’s event will be the fourth edition with the previous three winners all graduating to the European Tour at the end of the campaign.

Alexander Knappe won the inaugural title in 2016 en route to a third place finish in the Rankings, and Erik van Rooyen’s triumph in 2017 also saw him finish third on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. Kalle Samooja’s 2018 victory saw him finish the season in fourth place in the Challenge Tour Rankings.
