• US$10,000,000 prize fund
• Climax to The European Tour
• Starts November 2009

From 2009, The European Tour will come to a riveting climax at The Dubai World Championship, a US$10,000,000 prize fund tournament hosted at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, UAE.

The Dubai World Championship will be open to the players numbered from 1 to 60 on The Race to Dubai, formerly known as The European Tour Order of Merit.  Only those players numbered 1 to 60 will qualify; no alternates will be included.

The Race to Dubai comprises all events on The European Tour International Schedule, including all European Tour tournaments, the Major Championships and the World Golf Championships (WGC) ensuring the cream of world golf will qualify.

Competitors at The Dubai World Championship will play for a US$10,000,000 prize fund, with the winner getting US$1,666,660, making this the largest prize fund in world golf.

The competitors will play four rounds of stroke-play golf, from Thursday to Sunday, but there will be no cut; all entrants will play all rounds.

The first Dubai World Championship will be played from 19-22 November 2009.

The winner will receive a five year European Tour exemption.

The Dubai World Championship will be played in the first year on either the Earth or Fire courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates, both of which have been designed by Greg Norman.  The agreement allows for it to be played in subsequent years on any of the four courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
