Germany’s Bernhard Langer became the first three-time winner on the US Champions Tour this season, closing with a five -under par for a six-stroke victory over Mark O'Meara in the Triton Financial Classic.
The European Senior Tour Member, who will hope his fine form continues into The Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard at Sunningdale next month, finished on 15 under par 201 The Hills Country Club course, in Austin, Texas, matching the tournament record score set by Scott Hoch in 2007.
"This is probably as dominant as I've been this year," said Langer, who became the first wire-to-wire winner on the US Champions Tour in 2009. "I've won big before, but this is the best for this year."
"This is what we work and practice for. Winning never gets old.
"I didn't really look at a scoreboard until I got to the 15th, then I realised if I didn't do anything silly I would win.”
The two-time Masters Tournament champion, who captured his maiden Senior Tour title in the Casa Serena Open last September, has won seven times since joining the US Champions Tour late in the 2007 season.
He finished top of the US Champions Tour Money List in 2008, winning the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year and the Rookie of the Year, becoming only the third player to land both honours in the same season following Lee Trevino (1990) and Bruce Fleisher (1999).
Langer joins fellow Green Jacket winner Ian Woosnam, who also won at the weekend in the Irish Seniors Open in association with Fáilte Ireland and AIB Bank, at Sunningdale from July 23-26 when the pair will try to capture their maiden Senior Major Championship victory.
