3, Ireland’s fastest growing mobile network, believes that the 2010 3 Irish Open at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club from July 29 – August 1 can generate up to €30 million for the Kerry region.

An estimated 75,000 visitors will cheer on many of the world’s best players in Killarney next summer with a tourist bonanza of approximately €30m for businesses throughout the Kerry region. An estimated 300 million people will be watching the TV coverage around the world.

The Southwest of Ireland is particularly blessed with an abundance of wonderful attractions. With the 3 Irish Open 2010 descending on Killarney on the 29th July, the worlds eyes will not only be able to enjoy the stunning scenery and the wonderful golf but the region will benefit financially from the increased attention and tourism.

3’s Sales and Marketing Director, Elaine Carey, said: “We’re delighted to bring the 3 Irish Open 2010 to Killarney. The magnificent course in Killarney is an idyllic setting and we expect many of the world’s top golfers to take part in what will be a magical weekend in one of the world’s great beauty spots. It will also prove a big draw for golf fans and their families to holiday in Kerry around the tournament and to enjoy the wonderful festival atmosphere to the Bank Holiday weekend.”

Jerry O’Grady, from Killarney’s Chamber of Tourism & Commerce, said: “Killarney is delighted that it has been selected to host the 3 Irish Open in August 2010.  Golf has been a core element of the Kerry visitor experience for almost a century - offering the visitor some of the most scenic and enjoyably challenging courses in the world and Killarney Golf & Fishing Club has arguably two of the most scenic parkland courses on the circuit.

“The Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce estimates that the 3 Irish Open will bring €30 million to Kerry businesses through tourism.  The hospitality on offer to visiting golfers is second to none, with a superb selection of top quality accommodation, leisure activity and touring options within a few minutes drive from the course. Players and visitors to the 3 Irish Open are assured of having a memorable time in beautiful Killarney - not just in terms of golf but with so much to do for non-golfers and families as well.”

Maurice O’Meara, General Manager of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, said: “Having hosted two previous Irish Opens in 1991/92, it is with great pleasure that we look forward to welcoming back the leading European Tour players to Killarney in 2010. 3, the main sponsor should be congratulated on securing a fantastic date which is only a couple of weeks prior to Ryder Cup qualifying being finalised, this will ensure a very strong field for this event.

“Killarney Golf & Fishing Club looks forward to working with its members and local industry partners to ensure that the 3 Irish Open in 2010 is one of the most memorable Irish sporting events of 2010.”
