The Race to Dubai is on the home straight and Lee Westwood is in the driving seat as he takes a two stroke lead into the final round of the Dubai World Championship presented by: DP World.

Should he prevail over the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates on Sunday, he will win The Race to Dubai, overtaking Rory McIlroy right on the line. McIlroy lies five strokes behind Westwood in a share of third place and the battle for Number One is going right to the final day of the season.

The jostling for places throughout the top 15, and consequently a slice of The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool, means there is still everything to play for.

Oliver Wilson, Simon Dyson and Ian Poulter, who lie seventh, eighth and ninth on The Race to Dubai, are all tied 28th going into the final round. It will be a straight battle to get as big a bonus as possible for those three, an 18 hole sprint.  And Sergio Garcia could yet muscle his way into the top ten. Sixth going into the final round, the Spaniard has every chance to make a significant move and increase his share of the $7.5million Race to Dubai Bonus Pool.

Ross McGowan’s third round 66 which moved him to outright second, puts him in position to climb from 29th and into the top 15, should he maintain that position on the final afternoon. Second place could move him up to 12th in the final rankings.

Padraig Harrington, in a three-way tie for third after 54 holes, is also on course to move up from 18th into the top 15 to qualify for the Bonus Pool.

As a result Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Peter Hanson could be knocked out of the Bonus Pool at the final hurdle, but with 18 holes to go, so much can still happen. Alexander Noren could move into the top 20 if he maintains his position, or higher if he improves and he is still in with a chance of a top 15 place.

There is likely to be plenty of movement on the final day of the Dubai World Championship before the dust settles over the Earth course and the curtain comes down on a thrilling season, and the final 2009 Race to Dubai Bonus Pool is decided.
