2010 Junior Ryder Cup Information

Six girls and six boys will represent Europe against the United States in The 2010 Junior Ryder Cup at The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles, Scotland on Monday September 27 and Tuesday September 28, 2009. This is prior to The 2010 Ryder Cup which will be held at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, Wales, from October 1-3.
DAY ONE: Foursomes followed by mixed fourball
DAY TWO: Singles
UNITED STATES QUALIFICATION PROCESS: The United States team will comprise of the 34th Junior PGA Boy/Girl Champion, the 2010 US Junior Amateur Champion (to be contested from July 19-24 at Egypt Valley Country Club) and the US Girls Junior Champion (to be contested July 19-24 at the Country Club). The 2010 Junior PGA Championship Boy/Girl Champion and runner up (two boys and two girls) will also be part of the team. If none of the above are eligible their spot will become a Captain’s pick. A spot is also given to the top boy/girl from the year rounds point list. The final spot will be a boy/girl Captain’s pick.
BACKGROUND: Europe will attempt to maintain its advantage over the United States in The Junior Ryder Cup, having won the contest three times (in 1999, 2002 and 2004) compared to America’s two victories (in 1997 and 2008), with the 2006 Match at The Celtic Manor Resort halved. The United States are the holders of The Junior Ryder Cup having triumphed at Olde Stone Golf Club in Kentucky in 2008. That was the first year The Junior Ryder Cup players had the chance to also play a nine-hole Friendship Match at The Ryder Cup venue, Valhalla Golf Club, and meet the two Ryder Cup Teams. Previous Junior Ryder Cup players include current European Tour players Oliver Fisher and Rory McIlroy (2004), European Amateur Champion Carlotta Ciganda (2004 and 2006) and Matteo Manassero (2008), who won The 2009 Amateur Championship and won the Silver Medal as leading amateur in The 2009 Open Championship.
