Jeev Milkha Singh became only the second Indian golfer – following Arjun Atwal – to triumph on The European Tour International Schedule when he claimed victory in the Volvo China Open at the Honghua International Golf Club in Beijing. The 34 year old carded a final round 70 for a ten under par total of 278 to take the title by a shot from Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano with England’s David Lynn, the third round leader, a further shot adrift in third.

Lynn tames the gales to lead the Volvo China Open

In Friday’s second round David Lynn had to battle a troublesome groin injury which he did to great effect to lead the Volvo China Open at the halfway stage. In Saturday’s third round it was Mother Nature which provided the main obstacle to his progress in the form of gale force winds, often gusting to 35mph. But again the Englishman proved equal to the task to maintain pole position going into the final round.

Lynn puts the bite on the field in the Volvo China Open

‘Beware the injured golfer’ is a commonly used phrase within the game and England’s David Lynn gave credence to its authenticity once again in Beijing when he literally limped into the lead at the halfway stage of the Volvo China Open at the Honghua International Golf Club. The 32 year old from Stoke-on-Trent carded a second round 67 for a nine under par total of 135 to lead the way by one shot from Marc Cayeux, José-Filipe Lima and Prayad Marksaeng, but the mere statistics do little to illustrate the drama behind the Englishman’s visit to Beijing thus far.

Cayeux warms up to share early Volvo China Open lead

BEIJING, (Reuters) - Zimbabwe's Marc Cayeux fired eight birdies on his way to a seven-under-par 65 and a share of the early lead in the Volvo China Open second round. Cayeux was joined at eight-under by Portugal's Jose-Filipe Lima and Thai Prayad Marksaeng for a two-shot clubhouse lead over India's Rahil Ghangjee and Scotland's Scott Drummond on a warm day at the Honghua International Golf Club course in the Chinese capital.

Cévaër in the driving seat in the Volvo China Open

Almost two years ago to the day, Christian Cévaër won his maiden European Tour title in the 2004 Canarias Open de España. In the 24 months which followed, French golf enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance with six European Tour titles being won by French golfers and Cévaër gave notice he was keen to join the winners’ circle again when he moved into the lead after the first round of the Volvo China Open.

Cevaer beats the bunkers to lead the Volvo China Open

Frenchman Christian Cevaer beat the Beijing bunkers to shoot a six under par 66 and grab the early lead in the first round of the Volvo China Open at a sunny Honghua International Golf Club. Cevaer held a one stroke lead over Englishmen Simon Dyson, Ross Fisher and Simon Wakefield, who were tied for second with Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Swede Peter Hanson at the $1.8 million event, co-sanctioned by The European Tour and the Asian Tour.

Stenson Heads Strong field for Volvo China Open

Sweden's emerging superstar Henrik Stenson and revitalised Frenchman Jean Van de Velde will challenge for the Volvo China Open crown at the Nick Faldo-designed Beijing Honghua International Golf Club this week. The powerful Swede, whose prodigious length makes him such an exciting player to watch, missed the cut on his Masters Tournament debut last week while Van de Velde celebrated his selection as The European Tour’s Golfer of the Month for March by honing his game in Hong Kong.
