Welshman Bradley Dredge won the Omega European Masters by a staggering eight strokes - the biggest margin of victory so far this season on The European Tour - after an imperious performance at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in the Swiss Alps. Dredge fired a final round of 67, four under par, for a 17 under par total of 267 with Germany’s Marcel Siem and Italy’s Francesco Molinari a distant second.
Bradley Dredge is showing a head for heights as three years after winning his first European Tour title in the mountains of Madeira, the Welshman leads the field in the Swiss Alps as he chases a second victory. A six under par 65 at Crans-sur-Sierre took Dredge two clear of playing partner Marcel Siem of Germany. England’s Oliver Wilson lies third on nine under par after a round of 67 with the defending champion and World Number Eight, Sergio Garcia, a further shot back.
Welshman Bradley Dredge, South African Andrew McLardy and Marcel Siem of Germany, three players looking for upturn in fortunes, moved into a share of the lead on seven under par 135 at the halfway stage of the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre. McLardy’s round was the best of the leading trio and indeed the best of the week as he raced around in six under par 65, thanks primarily to his 23 putts, while Dredge and Siem both shot four under par 67s.
The English Trio of David Carter, Robert Coles, Anthony Wall lead the Omega European Masters after opening rounds of 66, five under par, after a glorious day in the Swiss Alps saw record crowds flock to Crans Montana.
Sergio Garcia launched his defence of the Omega European Masters title with a three under par 68 at Crans-sur-Sierre which put the Spaniard two behind the early first leaders, Robert Coles and Anthony Wall of England. Fellow Englishmen Simon Khan and Sam Little and Argentina's Rafael Gomez lie a further shot back at Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club in the Swiss Alps.
Sergio Garcia, who is poised to make his fourth Ryder Cup appearance for Europe later this month, will take the chance to hone his game for The K Club by defending his Omega European Masters title at Crans-sur-Sierre, Crans Montana, Switzerland, this week. The 26 year old Spaniard, who owns a home in the picturesque Swiss village, is one of six past winners of this prestigious championship to contest the 2006 event, which for the first time includes a woman golfer in American teenager, Michelle Wie.
