Cobra Ambassador Ian Poulter wins Accenture Matchplay Championship in style

Cobra Brand Ambassador Ian Poulter secured an impressive debut victory on American soil at the first World Golf Championship of the year in testing conditions at the Ritz-Carlton Club in Tucson, Arizona. The colourful Englishman, dressed in pink from head to toe for the 36 hole final, came out on top against fellow Englishman Paul Casey with a determined display of power and precision around the testing Arizona desert layout. After going one down as early as the second hole, Poulter quickly turned the match around with a fine display of long, straight driving and imperious iron play to close the match out 4&2.

Among the equipment trusted by Poulter was the new King Cobra ZL Driver (9.5 – set in the neutral position with a Fujikura 6.0 Motore Speeder X flex shaft), and the Cobra Pro CB and MB forged irons. It was a good week for Cobra’s headline players as Camilo Villegas narrowly missed out on a place in the championship match, having to settle for a comfortable 5&4 victory in the consolation match to finish third. Villegas was using the King Cobra S9-1 Pro S driver, King Cobra Speed LD fairway metals and Cobra Pro CB irons.

Poulter’s superb driving with his new Cobra ZL driver was a feature of his game this week and continues the momentum for the much talked about driver ever since Poulter put it straight in the bag to win in Singapore late last year. The most innovative, highest-performing driver Cobra has ever produced, the ZL is designed to help golfers achieve greater distances off the tee. ZL, which stands for ‘Zero Limits’, refers to the mindset the Cobra engineers had when they set out to design the longest driver in Cobra’s 36 year history. The superior performance of the ZL driver with its Advanced Multi-Material Construction and Adjustable Flight Technology is making the difference for golfers of all abilities including the likes of Ian Poulter and his fellow Cobra Tour staff players.

Poulter’s victory was his first in America, his first in a WGC event and sees him move up from 11th to 5th in world rankings. The victory also puts him one step closer to a coveted Ryder Cup place. The new Cobra ZL Driver has helped Cobra’s star player reach new heights and the brand focused on developing innovative, high performance golf clubs continues its winning ways in 2010.
