FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, celebrated the success of brand ambassador Ricardo Santos as he became the first Portuguese winner of The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. Following a season in which he won the Madeira Islands Open at Santo da Serra, becoming only the second Portuguese player to win on the International Schedule.

In the all-round excellence of FJ Sport and unrivalled grip and comfort of FJ StaSof, Santos fulfilled his boyhood dream by winning on Portuguese soil with a superb final round of 63. Notching up seven birdies, the score was lowest final round by a winner during the 2012 season. The impressive nature of the victory helped Santos to become the first Rookie winner on the 2012 European Tour International Schedule.

The last three winners of The Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of The Year Award have all been FJ Shoe and Glove loyalists, showcasing the unbelievable talent FootJoy has in its stable. In 2010, Matteo Manassero took the award after a stunning debut season as a 17 year old trusting the athletic performance of the FJ Sport. Santos succeeds youngster Tom Lewis who took the spoils at the Portugal Masters in 2011 in the classic styling of the flagship FJ ICON.

In one of the most memorable seasons in European Tour history, FootJoy ambassadors secured some of the year’s most revered titles. Rory McIlroy led the way wearing the FJ Sport, with a string of incredibly consistent performances. The Irishman’s stellar year ended with him holding the World’s #1 ranking and topping the European Tour and PGA Tour money lists, repeating the success of fellow brand ambassador and World #2 Luke Donald who trusted the flagship FJ ICON to claim the PGA BMW Championship 2012.  Loyalist Roger Chapman claimed the Senior Open title, whilst fellow brand ambassador Espen Kofstad topped the standings on the Challenge Tour, showcasing the stronghold FootJoy enjoys across all levels of the game.

“This year has been one of FootJoy’s most successful European Tour seasons ever, with FJ ambassadors not only victorious in all four Majors but also sitting at #1 and #2 in the world rankings”, commented Russell Lawes, European Marketing Manager, FootJoy. “The Rookie of the Year trophy caps off a fantastic 2012 season and I am sure Ricardo will build on this success next year,”

Whether it is the all-round excellence of FJ ICON, the Xtreme Platform Stability of the XPS-1, the reliability and consistent performance of DryJoys Tour, the sports performance of the FJ Sport or the multi-functional, lifestyle-infused Contour Casual, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
