Mizuno latest MP-63, MP-53 irons and MP T-11 wedges are now available for custom fitting / Swing DNA analysis.

Featuring Mizuno' new Diamond Muscle design, the MP-63 and MP-53 both appear smaller at address than their predecessors, but pack  extra forgiveness.  The Diamond Muscle also re-inforces the clubface of each model, tuning impact vibrations for an even more solid feel.

MP-63 / MP-53 and the MP T-11 wedges can be fitted and custom ordered at either Mizuno's National Fitting Centres or independent Swing DNA stockists.

MP-53 / Diamond Muscle

Mizuno’s own optical illusion, the compact MP-53 hides away a staggering level of forgiveness.

Ticking all the boxes required to be an MP model, the Grain Flow Forged MP-53 has the head size, playing profile, and top line to please the most demanding shot-makers.   Though the Diamond Muscle design and “V” shaped Milled Pocket Cavity ensure a surprising level of stability from off centre hits.

An innovative CNC milled Pocket Cavity removes 14 grams of weight which is strategically redistributed around the cavity to achieve the largest sweet area ever in an MP iron, without impacting its versatility.

The MP-53’s distinctive Diamond Muscle ensures that greater forgiveness is not achieved at the cost of workability or feel.  Created using Mizuno’s Harmonic Impact Technology and extensively tested on tour, Diamond Muscle was identified as the prime solution to fine tune the MP-53’s sound at impact.

In line with its quest to package big iron forgiveness into a more appealing head-size, the MP-53 also boasts a 360° grind to lessen the effective width of sole and top edge.  The shorter irons taper into a design similar to the smaller MP-63, with precision and control taking priority.

The MP-53 is Grain Flow Forged at Mizuno’s exclusive Hiroshima facility for exceptional feel and distance control.

Chris Voshall, R&D:  “Our design ethos is about packing as much forgiveness as we can into smaller, more versatile packages.  The MP-53 is an incredible iron – it’s smaller than our previous game improvement iron the MX-300, yet still more forgiving.

“The MP-53’s forgiveness is in the right places – the mid and long and irons.  With the shorter irons, loft takes over the role of forgiveness and we put an emphasis back onto feel and versatility

“There’s a great balance to this set – for anyone from tour level to a serious mid handicap amateur.”

• Diamond Muscle design:  Created using Harmonic Impact Technology for enhanced feel and ball control.
• Grain Flow Forged:  Heads forged from a single 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel billet for pure feel.
• V shaped CNC Milled Pocket Cavity:  (3-7 irons) redistributes weight to deliver the largest MOI ever in an MP iron.
• 360° Grind:  Thinner effective top line and clean turf interaction.
• Modified U-grooves:  Ideal spin rates within 2010 Condition of Competition rule.

MP-63 / Diamond Muscle

The MP-63 iron is an evolution of Mizuno’s most popular tour iron, the MP-62

The design goal of the MP-63 was to take the profile attributes of the Grain Flow Forged MP-62 (head size, top line, offset, sole width) so prolific on the world’s tours and create an improvement in both feel and versatility.

Mizuno studied vibration simulations of the head and experimented with several methods of affecting the sound and feel at impact (Harmonic Impact Technology). Numerous new concepts were then blind tested by Mizuno’s tour team (including the MP-62’s inspiration Luke Donald) and the Diamond Muscle Design, which reinforces the head from heel to toe, was the unanimous winner.

The sole of the MP-63 includes the visible 360° grind on the trailing edge for precise turf interaction that delivers complete shot versatility.  Mizuno’s first ever reverse flow within the set, means the 63’s longer irons are larger than the very compact short irons  - ensuring a new balance of forgiveness and precision.

Chris Voshall R&D:  “Essentially this is everything that was great about the MP-62 – with even more care taken to finely tune its feedback.  Our Modal Analysis told us that the Diamond Muscle would make a difference to the rigidity and vibration of the head – but to hear that confirmed by the same  tour players that created its predecessor was very re-assuring.”

• Reverse Set Flow:  Long irons larger than short irons to balance forgiveness and precision.

MP T-11 / NEW Quad Cut Groove

New groove regulations introduced on tour in 2010 will become standard for all wedges manufactured and distributed after Jan 1 2011.

With grooves becoming more standardized, other factors become increasingly important to control spin rates around the greens.   Material and club-head construction are now key to manipulate the golf ball – which is where Mizuno’s Grain Flow Forged wedges excel.

Forged from 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel, Mizuno’s MP T-11 provides a pure, soft club-head that holds the ball a fraction longer on full pitches.  On shorter pitch shots where the ball does not fully compress, CNC milled score-lines between the grooves ensure maximum traction.

A wider, shallower version of Mizuno’s QUAD CUT groove is used on 56-64 degree models to assist traction on the shorter, partial strikes – where the ball cannot fully compress.  Over 50-54 degrees, QUAD CUT uses a narrower, deeper configuration, suitable for fuller, squarer strikes.

Spin rates are accompanied by the shot making prowess of a compact teardrop shape. The thicker topline is bevelled down by a 360 grind, which also keeps the lead edge tight to the ground on a variety of shots.

The new MP T-11 wedge line is available in two finishes; Two Tone White Satin chrome and glare resistant Black Nickel.

Andy Kikidas, Tour Operations:  “The new rules on groove design – banning the squarer cut forced us to completely re-asses how to make the ball spin.  We found that the real spin losses were found on shorter pitches where the ball was just partially struck – rather than the fuller shots.

We realized that we needed more than one groove configuration to suit both kinds of shots.  The shallower, wider groove in conjunction with some face milling made a huge difference on shots around the green.

Luke Donald used this set up for us over the 2010 season - becoming the PGA Tour’s leading player for sand saves in the process.  Which proves how quickly the Mizuno QUAD CUT system has overcome the new groove restrictions.”

• New QUAD CUT Groove:  Maximises 4 dimensions within 2010 guidelines
• CNC Milled face:  Added traction for shorter pitch shots
• Grain Flow Forged:  Heads forged from a single 1025E Pure Select mild carbon steel billet for pure feel
• 360 Sole Grind:  Reduces effect of thicker upper blade for increased control.
• Tour Proven Grind:  Head shape based on favorite tour grinds.
