Full line Titleist player Ricardo Santos continued Titleist’s tale of success on the 2012 European Tour, after being awarded the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award. Santos becomes the first Portuguese player to win the award and follows a sensational debut season on the European Tour, during which he claimed his maiden tour title at the Madeira Islands Open and re-wrote the record books.

Santos’ became the first rookie winner on the 2012 schedule when he followed rounds of 68, 67 and 68 with a stunning final round 63 to claim victory by three shots at the Madeira Islands Open. His 22-under par winning total was a new tournament record and his final round 63 remains the lowest final round by a winner during the 2012 season. Santos trusted a host of Titleist equipment to become the only 2012 European Tour Rookie to enter the winners circle, including the Pro V1x golf ball, 910D3 driver, 910H hybrid, AP2 and MB irons, and Vokey Design SM4 gap, sand and lob wedges.

Santos’ award completes another hugely successful year for Titleist Brand Ambassadors and Titleist golf ball loyalists on the European Tour, accumulating an impressive 23 victories, compared to eight for the nearest competitor. Among the list of winners was Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy (Pro V1x) who claimed victory at the DP World Tour Championship to cap a memorable season. McIlroy not only won his second career Major in 2012, but also followed in the footsteps of fellow Pro V1x loyalist Luke Donald by topping the money list on both the European and PGA Tour. Titleist Brand Ambassador Bernd Weisberger also trusted Titleist throughout his bag to become a multiple winner on the 2012 European Tour, and was joined in the winners’ circle by fellow full line Titleist players Jbe Kruger, Michael Hoey, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Matteo Manassero. Louis Oosthuizen was one of a number of Titleist golf ball loyalists to win utilising the feel and control of the #1 ball in golf, alongside the likes of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Paul Lawrie, Nicholas Colsaerts, Robert Rock, Jamie Donaldson and Luke Donald, who has since put his trust in the new Titleist Pro V1x prototype golf ball.

The success of Titleist loyalists on the European Tour was mirrored at the Final Stage of European Tour Qualifying School, completed at PGA Catalunya this week. Of the 28 players securing playing rights to the top level of European golf, 25 put their trust in the feel and control of the legendary Pro V1 franchise. There was a stand-out performance by Titleist golf ball loyalist John Parry, who secured a four shot victory following a final round 70. In addition, one of the most notable performances came from Titleist Brand Ambassador Chris Lloyd, who finished with three birdies in his final four holes to secure his 2013 European Tour playing privileges by two shots.

A fantastic Rookie of the Year award for full line Titleist player Ricardo Santos completes a stellar season for Titleist Brand Ambassadors and golf ball loyalists on the European Tour in 2012. This, combined with the constant flow of victories for Pro V1 players around the world, once again proves that the best players in the world opt for the performance excellence of Titleist.
