The successful streak of European Tour victories for Titleist golf ball loyalists continued at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic this weekend, as the champion claimed victory with the New 2013 Titleist Pro V1x. The tournament marked the first time the Scotsman had put the ball into play in competition, and he joins the growing list of champions who have trusted the latest version of the legendary Pro V1 franchise. The win also marked the fourth consecutive victory for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the European Tour, following wins for Chris Wood (Pro V1x), Jamie Donaldson (Pro V1) and Louis Oosthuizen (Pro V1x) over the past four weeks.
The winner in Dubai had done little testing with the new 2013 Pro V1x until Monday and then played nine holes with it on Tuesday. Preferring the lower, more penetrating ball flight of the new 2013 model, he decided to put the ball straight into play. The win marked the second European Tour title of his career, earned in dramatic fashion by holing a 110-yard shot for eagle on the 16th hole, which eventually led him to a three stroke victory.
Alongside the eventual winner, this was also the first competitive week playing the new 2013 Pro V1x golf ball for a number of other Titleist golf ball loyalists including Henrik Stenson, Mark O’Meara and former Race to Dubai Champion, Lee Westwood. The Englishman met up with Titleist golf ball tour representative Fordie Pitts at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando prior to the tournament, where they discussed Westwood’s feel, spin and launch condition requirements in detail. Four dozen of the new golf balls were then sent to Westwood’s Florida home, where he practiced with them and put them into play en route to a tied fifth finish in Dubai. Titleist golf balls were also the overwhelming choice of the field at the event with 82 players putting their trust in the #1 ball in golf, compared to 19 for the nearest competitor.
Titleist golf balls continue to be the choice of champions on the European Tour, and victory in Dubai follows on from 3 victories in the 3 previous weeks, including Titleist Pro V1x loyalist Chris Wood’s triumph at last week’s Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. This was the first European Tour title of the 25-year old Englishman’s career, and he put his trust in the precision and performance of the Pro V1x golf ball to claim victory with a dramatic eagle on the 72nd hole. Wood fired a closing round 69 to finish one shot clear of two players who tied second, including Titleist Brand Ambassador George Coetzee. The South African trusted a host of Titleist equipment, including the 2013 Pro V1x golf ball, 913D3 driver, 909F2 fairway metal, 712U prototype 3-utility iron, CB/MB irons, and Vokey Design SM4 gap, sand and wedges. Titleist was the #1 Ball at the Qatar Masters, as 62% of the field relied upon a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, nearly four times the nearest competitor.
Four consecutive victories for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the European Tour, continues the Titleist momentum in 2013 and proves that the world’s best players put their trust in the performance excellence of Titleist to deliver success.
