With consistently unpredictable weather, Nike Golf athletes will sport looks from the Fall 2013 Collection to combat every element they are faced with at The Open Championship. Every Nike athlete in the field will compete in new designs from head to toe that incorporate key technologies for every weather condition.
“We make sure our athletes have the base layers, Dri-FIT polos, cover-ups and outerwear so they are prepared for a round that could see four different seasons over 18 holes,” said Merritt Richardson, vice president of global golf apparel and footwear for Nike Golf. “With our breathable, lightweight fabrics, layering is key without adding weight or bulk. Our athletes will be armed with the essentials so they don’t have to think about their apparel during their quest for a Major Championship trophy.”
The Nike Athletes will be geared up with new, innovative outerwear at Muirfield. They will be highlighting the Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket, which combines both mobility and waterproof protection. The only performance jacket of its kind, the Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT features a sweater-like stretch and an impenetrable outer layer – both elements work together without sacrificing performance.
Twelve Nike Athletes will compete at the 2013 Open Championship: Scott Brown, Oliver Fisher, Russell Henley, Scott Jamieson, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Thorbjorn Olesen, Carl Pettersson, Charl Schwartzel, Kyle Stanley, Nick Watney and Tiger Woods.
Woods will rely on the proven innovations from Nike Golf’s Fall 2013 Tiger Woods Collection. This collection utilises the most innovative technologies to drive performance. During the tournament Woods will wear the TW Trajectory Polo in Black (£74.99), and the TW Stripe Polo in Hyper Red (£69.99) from the European range. These polos are extremely lightweight and utilise a laser-perforated collar for increased ventilation to keep the athlete cool while also reducing overall weight. All of these styles utilise the iconic posture performance chassis which has a kimono style back design to allow Woods an increased range of motion throughout his swing. Woods will finish his look with the new Nike TW’14 footwear.
McIlroy will sport looks from the Nike Fall 2013 Tour Performance collection, featuring the latest innovations in lightweight, breathable performance fabrications. From the European range McIlroy’s Friday outfit features the Fashion Bold Stripe Polo in Black (£40). For the weekend, McIlroy will wear the Fashion Print Polo in Black (£45) on Saturday and the Light Weight Tech Polo in Game Royal (£40) for his final round. He will stay protected with the new Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket if wet weather presents itself at Muirfield. McIlroy will complete his look with the Nike Lunar Control footwear.
Olesen will be making his third appearance at The Open wearing deep, rich colour from the Sport and Tour Performance Collections. The Sport Collection, which represents a youthful and edgy design with a slimmer fit cut, will be seen on Olesen on Thursday at Muirfield where the Danish man will wear the Sport Nike Swing Polo in Fusion Pink (£29.99). He will continue the theme of deep, rich colour with the Light Weight Tech polo in Gamma Orange (£40) on Friday and the Colour Block Polo in Gamma Green (£45) on Sunday. He will finish his look with the Nike Flat Bill hat and the Nike Lunar Control footwear.
Nike Golf is also to pay homage to traditional Scottish dress with a special range of tartan, first seen in May on its athletes at the BMW PGA Championship. Featuring Nike’s Dri-FIT technology and designed with insight from Tour staff athletes such as Tiger Woods and Paul Casey, these game changing trousers seamlessly combine tradition and innovation and will be worn by athletes including Thorbjorn Olesen, Oliver Fisher, Francesco Molinari and Scott Jamieson during Thursday’s opening round at Murfield.
