Callaway Staff Professionals Thomas Björn and Craig Lee, both using a full compliment of Callaway and Odyssey hardware, went head-to-head to decide the winner of the Omega European Masters – with Björn having the Midas touch with his Odyssey Tank #7 Putter to claim victory.

Björn, who dropped only two shots over the 72 holes and single-putted the first eight greens in a final round of 65 – five of which were birdies – holed a 12-foot birdie putt on the first extra play-off hole to claim his 14th European Tour title and his second at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland.

Commenting on his -20 play-off win, 42-year-old Björn said: “I had a good run through the summer but did not really get close enough. I had to grit my teeth for a while and I really wanted to get out and try to win a golf tournament again. It was nice to do that in a play-off. I’ve had a hard time dealing with pressure situations and there is no more pressure than that.”

However, it was Lee who made the headlines in the third round when he carded an incredible course record 61. The Scot putted superb with his Odyssey Tank #1 and came close to producing the first sub-60 round in the history of The European Tour.

Neil Howie, President and Managing Director of Callaway EMEA, added: “It has been quite a weekend for Callaway in Europe. We nearly witnessed Staff Professional Craig Lee shoot the first 59 on the European Tour on Saturday, then saw him go head-to-head with Thomas down the stretch on Sunday. It was, quite literally, a Callaway shootout in the end!”

“Thomas has been threatening the winner’s circle all season and it seemed apt that thanks to some stunning putting with his Odyssey Tank #7, he claimed a title which he previously won two years ago, ironically, with the same score.”

Thomas earned €366,660 for his win which has moved him up to 8th position in the Race to Dubai rankings, while Craig took home a career-high cheque of €244,440, which looks likely to secure his European Tour status for next year.

This week there were three Odyssey Tank putters in the T10 and 48.7% of the field chose to use one of the models from the #1 Putter in Golf.
