The sun sets on the great Seve Ballesteros (Stephen Munday)

Ryder Cup captains past and present, royalty, politicians and sports administrators will join family, friends and players at the funeral of five-time Major Champion Seve Ballesteros in the small parish church of San Pedro de Pedreña today.

The 2012 European Captain José Maria Olazábal, who with Seve formed the greatest partnership in Ryder Cup history, will be joined by past Captains Sir Nick Faldo, Bernard Gallacher, Colin Montgomerie, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam at the funeral along with Spain's Crown Prince Felipe and Esperanaza Aguirre, the President of Madrid.

George O’Grady, Chief Executive of The European Tour, R&A Chief Executive Peter Dawson and his predecessor Sir Michael Bonallack and a host of players will join the family and friends to pay their respects to one of the greatest players ever to play the game.

All of Spain’s 422 golf clubs will also observe a minute's silence, while the flag sticks for the Pro-Am of the Iberdrola Open in Majorca will have black ribbons attached.

The Pula Golf Club, which is hosting this week’s Iberdrola Open on the island of Majorca, will also hold a memorial service at its chapel this evening after today’s Pro-Am.
