Sergio Garcia had to wait to learn his Ryder Cup fate as the final round of the Wyndham Championship on the US PGA Tour was suspended until Monday because of heavy rain.

The Spaniard, who is currently 11th in the World Points List, leads by one shot in the last round, and a top three finish in North Carolina would guarantee him a spot in José María Olazábal’s team for the biennial contest, which takes place at Medinah Country Club next month.

The 32 year old dropped out of the final automatic qualifying spot when Englishman Ian Poulter finished tied third in the US PGA Championship, but was one under through four holes and 15 under par overall at Sedgefield Country Club to stay in front of Bud Cauley and Tim Clark.

Another player hoping to make Olazábal’s team, Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts, finished with a four under par 66 to end on 13 under par and boost his chances of making the team.
