Brooks Koepka continued his impressive year with a top three finish at the Open.

The American won three times in two months on The Challenge Tour earlier this year to earn instant promotion to The European Tour, where he recorded his first top ten finish in Switzerland.

The 23 year old enjoyed a two shot 54-hole lead in his first regular US PGA Tour event, but a closing 72 saw him finish three shots adrift of compatriot Jimmy Walker at CordeValle.

Walker caught Koepka with back-to-back birdies at the eighth and ninth, then surged clear with further gains at the 13th and 15th in a flawless back nine as he finished 17 under par.

Fiji’s Vijay Singh was second on 15 under after a closing 68.
