Local boy Jamie Abbott moved into a share of the halfway lead at Qualifying School First Stage Section B at The Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa, after a second successive 67 moved him to the top alongside Swede Philip Eriksson.
Abbott comes from Ipswich in Suffolk, where the English venue is based, and has played two full seasons on the Challenge Tour. He put that experience to good use as he hopes to make a return to the highest echelons of the game.
Scot Paul Shields and American Steve Burak shared second place, a shot behind the leaders on eight under par.
At the other Section B venue of Ebreichsdorf in Austria, round two was suspended overnight due to darkness after morning delays due to heavy rain and wet conditions, with Marcus Helligkilde of Denmark the clubhouse leader on seven under par after adding a second round 67 to an opening 65.
Former Challenge Tour winner and 2013 Qualifying School graduate Brinson Paolini of the USA and Switzerland’s Benjamin Rusch shared second place as they were two under and three under, respectively, through nine holes – on a six under total.
