Francesco Molinari became the first Italian to win a Major Championship when he claimed the Claret Jug at Carnoustie Golf Links.

The 35 year old finished two clear of Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner to win The 147th Open Championship. Playing with three-time Open winner Tiger Woods, Molinari carded a bogey-free round of 69 to create history in Scotland.

Nobody made more birdies during the week than the Italian's 17, with Molinari sinking a number of clutch putts using a Bettinardi Dass BBZero on a dramatic final day.
