Mentored by Europe’s 2012 Ryder Cup captain José María Olazábal, having played most of his junior golf at his local golf club in the seaside resort of Fuenterrabia, where Olazábal was born and raised. Then made the short move over the border to Biarritz, but still stays in regular contact with his idol and mentor. Won 11 titles in a glittering amateur career, including the 2010 British Boys Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club in Scotland. Beat Germany’s Max Rotluff 4&3 in the final to emulate the achievement of Olazábal, whose name was etched onto the same trophy 1983. Finished in a tie for 16th place on his European Tour debut at the Iberdrola Open in May 2011, having secured his Tour card – aged 19 years and 24 days – at the Qualifying School Final Stage. Struggled to make an impact in his rookie season, he earned an immediate return to the top tier after finishing seventh in the 2013 Challenge Tour Rankings, thanks to three runner-up finishes. Missed out again on retaining his playing rights in 2014 and 2015, but earned a reputation as a Qualifying School specialist by coming through the Final Stage again both times, sharing victory with Ulrich van den Berg and Daniel Im in 2015.
