Biography

A regular competitor on The European Tour in the 1970s and 1980s and winner of two Tour titles in his banner season in 1976. The first victory came when he defeated former US PGA Champion, Hubert Green, by a single shot at the Dunlop Masters at St Pierre in Chepstow. A couple of weeks later he also captured the Italian Open title at Is Molas where he finished no less than eight shots ahead of Carl Mason and Manuel Piñero. Finished ninth on the Volvo Order of Merit that season and in 1979 he also made it into the top 30 in 27th place. That year his best performance came when he came tied for second place behind Argentina’s Vicente Fernandez at the Colgate PGA Championship. Last season, he ended his rookie season at 26th place on the Seniors Tour Order of Merit, the highlight being his joint fourth finish behind Jerry Bruner at the De Vere Northumberland Classic at De Vere Slaley Hall.
