One of the most respected and long-serving Members of The European Tour, he is also one of the most consistent performers, 2008 representing the 20th season in succession that he has held automatic playing rights. Also active back home in his native Australia and, in December 2006, he was elected to the PGA of Australasia Board of Directors. Last European Tour success came in 2001 when he turned a five shot deficit after 54 holes into a one shot victory in The English Open. However, those with long memories still talk about his finish to his first victory – the 1992 Scottish Open at Gleneagles – when he covered the last five holes in seven under par to pip Colin Montgomerie for the title. Born in Bathurst in New South Wales of Irish descent and was taught to play the game by his father, Don, a keen amateur golfer. Was Australian Tour Rookie of the Year in 1987.
