Recorded four top ten finishes in 2011 to end the year in 17th position on the Order of Merit and maintain his run of finishing inside the top 20 in each of his four seasons on the Senior Tour. Had finished runner up on seven occasions, including twice in succession in 2010 in the lucrative Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open and De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship which helped him to third on the Order of Merit. That continued his upward trajectory after finishing 11th in 2008 and fifth in 2009. The big hitting South American won his card through the Qualifying School and was a runner up twice in his rookie campaign, in the Jersey Seniors Classic and the Russian Seniors Open. Captain of Paraguay's Alfred Dunhill Cup team in 1991 and 1993. Led the Tour de Las Americas’ Order of Merit for four consecutive years, from 1989-92. Won the Paraguay Open on six occasions, as well as 20 other tournaments on the South American Tour. Won six National Opens (Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, and Paraguay), as well as 24 other events on the South American Tour. Was renowned as being a giantkiller in the Alfred Dunhill Cup, being the only man to beat John Daly over the Old Course in 1993, and Ernie Els in 1994. His brother Carlos plays on the US PGA Tour.
