Readily admits that he had 'no choice' but to become a golfer, being born into a family with such a strong golfing pedigree. Dad Graham and uncles Harold, Brian and Alan all professionals. All but Brian represented South Africa in the World Cup, but only Brian is in the Golf Hall of Fame for his instrumental role in launching the US PGA Seniors Tour. Dad was pro at Glendower then Wanderers Club in Johannesburg, where Nic earned his first handicap of 36 at age seven. Has two brothers who both caddie for him, Jason (his full-time caddie) and Craig (part-time). Regards beating Darren Clarke in a play-off for the Vodacom Players Championship in December 1999 as his best performance as a professional. Sons Chris (4) and Jordan (2) already have their first sets of clubs!
