A brilliant seven under par 64 at Golf d’Hardelot propelled Ireland’s Niall Turner into a share of the halfway lead of the European Tour First Qualifying Stage – Section C alongside Welshman Mark Laskey.
Turner moved to ten under par 132 on a glorious day in France following an opening 68 to lie alongside Laskey, who followed up his opening 65 with a second round 67.
A second Irishman Niall O’Briain is a shot further back after a second round 67.
The top 19 players and ties will progress through to the Second Qualifying Stage to be played in the first week of December over four courses in Spain - Costa Ballena Ocean Club, Las Colinas G & CC, El Valle Golf Resort and the South Course at La Manga Club.
Another four rounds await them there and then those who make the grade at the Second Qualifying Stage move on to the six-round examination of the Final Qualifying Stage at PGA Catalunya Resort, Girona, Spain from December 10-15.
A total of 94 players have already secured their place at the Second Stage having progressed through Dundonald Links in Scotland, Ebreichsdorf in Austria, WychwoodPark in England and Fleesensee G&CC – a European Tour Course - in Germany.
