Liam Bond continued his remarkable record in the 2012 Qualifying School as the Welshman led the field in one of the four Second Stage venues, Lumine Golf and Beach Club, thanks to a second round 68 which moved him a shot clear on ten under par.

Bond made it through to Second stage after winning at his venue in First Stage but the step into a stronger field, where Challenge tour players and European Tour players are exempt, has not fazed him one bit.

He enters the second round one shot ahead of Englishman Paul Maddy, while Ireland’s former Walker Cup player Niall Kearney is in the mix in tied seventh place. Steven O’Hara of Scotland, meanwhile, recovered from an opening round 73 with a second round 66 that moved him right into contention of qualification to Final Stage.

At Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, five players shared the lead on five under par, among them Dutchman Tim Sluiter, who lost in a play-off at the Challenge Tour’s ALLIANZ Open de Lyon earlier this year, and his compatriot Taco Remkes.

Former US Amateur Champion Byeong-hun An of South Korea is also in the mix in tied ninth while overnight leader Florian Fritsch of Germany could only manage a second round 73 but remained in with a shout of qualification in tied 11th.

Spain’s Adrian Otaegui is searching for his second successive qualification to The European Tour via Qualifying School and he is tied leader at Campo de golf El Saler on three under par, alongside Ou Yang Zheng of China and German amateur Moritz Lampert.

Sweden’s Åke Nilsson leads at El Valle Golf Resort after a superb second round of 64 moved him two shots clear on seven under while three-time winner on the Challenge Tour in 2011 Sam Little and promising Scot David Law are also in contention there in tied second and tied sixth place respectively.
