Nick McCarthy recovered from a bogey at the first hole to post a five under par 67 in the third round of the European Tour Qualifying School Stage One Section B at Frilford Heath Golf Club.
The Englishman moved to 15 under, two shots clear of compatriots Lee S James and Daniel Gavins with one round remaining.
Korean Jin-Woo Park had the round of the day, a seven under par 65 to move up 38 places and into the qualifying zone. Twenty-places (plus ties) are up for grabs at the English venue.
Also at Frilford Heath was former professional footballer Jimmy Bullard, whose third round of 79 put paid to his chances of progressing.
Elswhere in Stage One Section B, at Flesensee Golf and Country Club in Germany, Filip Mruzek rocketed up the leaderboard with a third round eight under par 64.
The Czech has a share of the lead at ten under par, alongside Frenchman Damien Perrier, who signed for a four under par 68.
Second round leader Wilhelm Schauman is one shot adrift at nine under after a 71, and the cut-off point for qualification to Stage Two is currently three under, with 23 players on that mark heading into the final round.
