Englishman Ryan Brown moved to the top of the leaderboard with a fine second round seven under 65 at the First Qualifying Stage Section D event at Frilford Heath.
Brown birdied four of his last six holes of the par 72 Red course at the Oxfordshire venue, to move to 12 under par for the tournament, two shots clear of American Charlie Harrison.
The man from across the pond carded a bogey-free 66, to move into second place.
Mark Laskey, the overnight leader, had a more subdued second 18, signing for a one under par 71 to leave him a further three shots back. However he will be upbeat with his chances of progression, as 23rd place and better, including ties, advance to the Second Qualifying Stage after the 72 hole contest at Frilford.
In the corresponding Section D event at Ribagolfe, Lisbon, Swiss Raphaël De Sousa built on a fine opening 68 with a second round 69 to move to a seven under.
De Sousa had solid back nine, which he kept bogey-free with six pars and three birdies. It positions him one shot clear of Alfredo Garcia-Heredia who notched up seven birdies himself during his four under par round of 68.
The Spaniard now lies six under par, alone in second place and one shot clear of four players at the Portuguese venue.
All of the above look likely to qualify, providing there are no major hiccups, as Ribagolfe will see 22nd place and better, including ties, progressing to the next round which is staged in Spain over four courses.
