Denmark’s Kasper K Estrup stormed into a share of the lead in the third round of the European Tour Qualifying School First Stage Section B at Ebreichsdorf Golf Club in Austria thanks to a stunning nine under par 63.
Estrup came to life after opening with rounds of 70 and 71 and at 12 under par overall he sits top of the leaderboard alongside American Dodge Kemmer, who signed for a 71 on day three.
Jan Cafourek from the Czech Republic is in third place on 11 under thanks to a 66, while Irishman Paul Dunne, who stole the headlines at The Open Championship earlier this summer and helped Great Britain and Ireland win the Walker Cup two weeks ago, is tied tenth following rounds of 70-69-69.
Fifty-five players made the cut at three over par or better, and the top 21 players and ties will make it through to the Second Stage, which will be played across four Spanish venues in November.
Meanwhile, in the other Section B qualifier, at Collingtree Park in England, play was halted just before 7pm due to darkness, with most players still to complete their third rounds. Heavy rain on the first day, which led to delays, has had a knock-on effect. Round three will be resumed early on Friday, with the fourth and final round starting straight after.
