Gerard Piris Mateu continued his impressive run to take a two stroke lead into the final round at the First Stage Qualifying Section D Bogogno Golf Resort.
The Spaniard was in scintillating form yesterday carding 11 birdies to sign for an impressive round of 62, and followed up his good work with a three under par 69 today.
South African Christiaan Basson trails Mateu by two, with Italians Joon Kim and Jacopo Vecchi Fossa joined by amateur Ayoub Lguirati a further shot off the pace.
The 110 players taking part at Bogogno this week are competing to finish inside the top 21, who will progress to the Second Stage in Spain next month.
Meabwhile, Peter Tarver Jones shot a round of 73 to maintain his position atop of the leaderboard heading into the final day at the Frilford Heath.
The Englishman was one over for the day with a mixed round which included two birdies and three bogeys – moving the 29 year old to six under par overall.
His compatriots Joseph Dean and James Ford are tied second a further shot back, with a chasing group of that features England’s Jamie Howarth, Northern Ireland’s Colin Fairweather and Sweden’s Björn Hellgren.
This week the top 20 and ties will progress to Second Stage from Abingdon.
