WEATHER

Weather in advance

- The area has experienced a very mixed weather pattern, with lots of dry sunny days being punctuated by heavy rainfall on some days and through the night. This has resulted in the course becoming very green and it will play very long this year.

Forecast for tournament

- Mostly dry conditions forecast for the week, with showers possible on Wednesday and Thursday. Winds will be strong for Monday practice with gusts up to 30mph. For the rest of the week winds will decrease to between 10 and 20mph. All week the general wind direction is Westerly.

COURSE

Opened

- 1993 – re-opened following changes to the original design.

Course designer

- J H Taylor (original – 1908)

Special features

-

General playability

- good challenge for all abilities

Undulating / flat

- gently sloping

Tree lined / exposed

- tree lined in part with many gorse bushes

Many / few water hazards

- not many water hazards in play

Changes to the course

- Since 2014 there have been several new tees, which have extended the course to over 7000 yards from the back tees. The most recent new tee is on hole 7 and this will be used for the first time in 2017.

- Lots of bunker re-shaping has taken place over the last few years and for this year re-shaped or new bunkers on holes 2 and 7 will be in play for the first time.

- Lots if cutting lines have been optimized over the last 12 months, so several fairway shapes have changed.

OTHER FEATURES

Any other features of the course/event that may be of interest to web readers

- The club’s land is, in part, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and a programme of heather regeneration has seen a revival of the indigenous heathland flora and fauna. This is ongoing and is experiencing good results.
