Ernie Els began the final round with an eight shot lead over Greg Noman, and eventually won by six from the Australian following a closing 71 which included four birdies and three bogeys.  It was his first win on the Volvo Tour, and his 20 under par total of 268 clipped four strokes off the previous winning total set by Seve Ballesteros in 1992.  Els regarded his 25 foot putt to salvage par at the eighth - he had driven into an unplayable lie - as a turning point in the last round.
