Two shots clear after a third round 68, Sam Torrance's progress on the last day at the Collingtree Park European Tour Course was sharply halted by New Zealander Michael Campbell.  This outstanding rookie made three homeward birdies in a row to edge in front but in a pressure-crammed finish it was Torrance's experience and nerve that held.  Campbell three-putted the 16th to fall back into a tie, and when he drove the water at the par five 18th the Scot seized his chance with a bold birdie four for a one-shot victory - his third of the season.
