Ian Woosnam began the last round three ahead of Russell Claydon.  He was five ahead after a birdie at the third, but dropped five shots at the next eight holes.  However, he sank a ten foot eagle putt at the 12th and remained in control in strong westerly winds to win with a one over par total - the first time that an above par score had been good enough to win on the Europen Tour since Sandly Lyle in the 1985 Open Golf Championship.
